Natural FRCM and Heritage Buildings: Experimental Approach to Innovative Interventions on “Wall Beams”

In this paper, an innovative strengthening system for masonry walls made of externally bonded Fabric-Reinforced Cementitious Matrix (FRCM) is presented. Due to the good mechanical properties and compatibility with architectural heritage, FRCM adequate alternative use Fiber-Reinforced Polymer (FRP) composites other traditional techniques. The proposed applied a classical typology in cultural heritage architecture, which “in falso” masonry: load-bearing wall built over vault, hence without direct load path ground. A research program, characterized by experimental campaign, has been started order devise verify optimal that assures structural behavior similar “wall beam”, so prevent progressive collapses when underlying vault loses its carrier function. particular, rather than canonical application, consisting widespread application whole surface wall, intervention “Green Tape” designed verified specifically set-up. main objective propose reinforcement strategy not detrimental unmovable artistic assets tied safety robustness heritage.
